One
of the oldest tricks in the book when it comes to soothing dry skin is oil
massage. If you’re about to freak out over state of your skin then I highly
suggest running to the cabinet and finding your closest plant-based, organic
oil and lathering up.
Plant-based
oils act as amazing, all-natural moisturizers for your skin. The added vitamins
and minerals give a boost to your body too.
2. Vitamin E Oil
Plant-based oils aren’t the only things that pop up when
searching how to get rid of dark knees. Vitamin E oil is touted as a common
solution. This oil is said to cure many skin conditions all on its own however
you will find conflicting testimonies. Some people found no benefit or felt
their condition worsened after use. Why not try it and see for
yourself?
The
Skinny Confidential states that Vitamin E helps prevent your
skin from losing water and retain its natural moisture. This is perfect for
reversing dry knees. Not only is it stopping moisture from leaving your body,
it also helps keep it there. Sounds like a win to me!
3. Mint
Mint leaves are one of my favourite things. Not only does mint
taste fabulous in my favourite cocktail, it also boasts antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.
When I first started reading about mint I had no idea how often
it was used for different ailments and conditions. Some
benefits of mint that you may not be aware of include:
- Aids in digestion
- Helps relieve nausea and headaches
- Relieves symptoms of depression
- Decreases memory loss
- Helps with oral care
- Helps with weight loss
- Helps with cancer prevention
According to Home Remedies for Life,
mint also contains beneficial important essential oils that help create white
blood cells and collagen. They also state it can help diminish scar tissue
and rejuvenate your skin – including the skin of your knees.
To
try a mint remedy at home, check this recipe from Home Remedies for Life:
Boil
½ cup of waterStir in a handful of mint leaves and continue to boil for a few
more minutes.Squeeze the juice from ½ a lemon into the waterRemove from heat
and stand to cool for a few minutesUse a cotton ball or rag to apply to your
kneesLet mixture sit on skin for 10-15 minutes and then rinse with warm water
4. Gram Flour
When
I first discovered this remedy, I didn’t even know what gram flour was. I
learned that it’s a type of flour made from the humble chickpea. The cool thing
about gram flour is that you can use it several different ways depending on
other items you have in your kitchen.
Gram
flour contains lots of essential vitamins, minerals, and proteins. On top of
that, this flour helps to exfoliate your skin by removing dead skin cells and
unwanted blemishes.
Gram Flour Recipe 1: Gram Flour and Yogurt
Yogurt
has some amazing benefits. You likely already know how good it is for your
digestive system, but it goes well above and beyond that.
The most important benefit of yogurt for our purposes here, is
its ability to remove dead skin cells. Organic
Authority states that yogurt contains a certain lactic acid
called alpha hydroxyl acid. This is the ingredient that helps with dead skin
cell removal. Removing the dead skin from your knees is an important step to
consider.
In
order to experience the moisturizing effects of yogurt, mix it together with
gram flour in order to moisturize, soothe and remove dead skin.
Home
Remedies for Life suggests the following recipe:
1. Make
a paste with 2 tablespoons of gram
flour mixed with yogurt
2. Apply
the mixture to your knees and leave on for 15 to 20 minutes
3. Proceed
to massage the paste in circles for another 5 to 10 minutes
4. Repeat
the process until you experience relief
The
article mentions that you should replace yogurt with fresh cream if you
normally experience dry skin. If you happen to have oily skin, replace the
yogurt with milk.
Gram Flour Recipe 2: Gram Flour and Lemon Juice
Home

flour and lemon juice
2. Apply
the mixture to your knees and massage
3. Leave
mixture on skin for a few minutes after massaging
4. Rinse
off with water
Repeat
this method regularly. Unlike the other methods, this one claims to bring
instant results.
Gram Flour Recipe 3: Gram Flour, Turmeric, and Milk
This
Home Remedies for Life recipe calls for:
- ½ cup of gram
flour
- ½ teaspoon turmeric
powder
- High fat milk
Once
you gather your ingredients, start boiling the high fat milk until it is thick
and clotted. You’ll then add in the turmeric and gram powder and start blending
it into a paste. Once your paste is formed, massage it into your knees in a
circular motion.
Leave
the concoction on your knees for about ten to fifteen minutes. Once complete,
rinse with water and repeat as needed.
5.Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is an
extremely popular succulent plant. We’ve always used it as a remedy for sunburn
at my house growing up. While it’s not proven to lessen the burn, it does feel
extremely good when you first apply the cool gel to hot skin.
Despite many conflicting studies, alternative medicine industries
repeatedly make claims about the moisturizing, soothing and
healing benefits of aloe vera. It’s something you’ll have to try yourself to to
see the results. There is proof that its anti-inflammatory properties are
helpful for certain skin conditions.
You can simply buy an aloe vera plant, cut the leaf and apply
the gel directly to the affected area. If you don’t have green fingers, you
can buy the
gel too. You’ll want to leave it on for as long as thirty or
forty minutes. Rinse with water and repeat as needed.
Home
Remedies for Life suggests using aloe vera with honey. Honey is a natural moisturizer
and when mixed with aloe vera can up the ante when it comes to healing and
lightening your skin.
You
should mix the aloe vera gel with organic or Manuka honey in a 50:50
ratio. Massage this concoction into your knees and leave it on for at least fifteen
to twenty minutes. Rinse with water and repeat regularly.
